Frequently asked questions about m-way and electromobility
Who is m-way?
m-way is a Migros company and the Swiss competence centre for electromobility. m-way offers 100% electrically operated vehicles to be purchased, rented or leased. Thanks to green electricity from Swiss power plants, which is offered through certificates, m-way ensures climate-friendly mobility for the electric vehicles that it sells. At m-way, there are attractive financing models for private and corporate customers as well as innovative insurance services. A network of m-way charging stations and service centres makes sure that m-way vehicles are always mobile.
How much does it cost to charge my electric vehicle, and how far can I drive with it?
That depends on the respective arrangement with your electricity provider. Usually a full battery charge, with completely CO2-free electricity, costs between 3 and 4 franks for the THINK City electric car. You can drive up to 160 km with that battery charge. It significantly reduces the fuel costs for an electric vehicle in comparison to petrol or diesel vehicles.
Charging an electric scooter only costs a fraction of this due to the lower battery capacity.
You can find more detailed information in the specifications for the respective model (link to shop).
What services does m-way offer for electric vehicles?
m-way offers consulting, rentals, sales, service, financing and assistance for all types of electric vehicles. In addition, we sell options and accessories for electric vehicles and also offer solutions for operating a fleet. The range of services from m-way is being successively expanded.
Where can I rent or buy an electric vehicle?
At the m-way consulting and sales centres set-up specifically for that purpose. You can find them at the top right on the map. In parallel, we are working at full steam on launching the online shop for electric vehicles at www.m-way.ch.
How much does an electric vehicle cost?
You can find the current prices for our vehicles on the respective product pages. There are electric bicycles at m-way starting at CHF 2'799. We offer electric scooters starting at CHF 3'900.
We offer our customers favourable financing options and special offers. Therefore, visit our shop regularly (direct www.address) and register for our newsletter (link to registration form).
Can I also charge my electric vehicle outside the city?
There are already a large number of public charging stations in Switzerland. You can thus charge the batteries of your electric vehicle when you travel long distances. The network of public charging stations is being continuously expanded. You can find an overview of publicly accessible charging stations here.
Will there also be so-called quick charging stations at Migrol petrol stations?
That is planned for the future. All charging stations will be entered on our map of publically accessible charging stations as soon as they go into operation.
How long does it take to charge an electric vehicle?
It takes 8 – 10 hours to fully charge the THINK City electric car using regular household electricity.
Fully charging the batteries of the two-wheel electric scooter takes between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the model. A full charge for an electric bicycle takes between 1 and 4 hours.
You can find more detailed information in the specifications for the respective model (link to shop).
What is the status of the efficiency of electric vehicles?
The efficiency of the net energy in the entire energy chain for an electric vehicle is 40%. For a diesel vehicle, it is only 15%.
Where does the electricity for the electric vehicles come from?
The Swiss electricity mix for m-way electric vehicles is offered through the sale of green electricity certificates, ensuring that you are travelling genuinely sustainable with your electric vehicle. m-way works together with the Society for Environmentally Friendly Energy and sells “nature-made star” green electricity certificates from Swiss hydro power.
Does Migros also provide charging stations for electric vehicles in its car parks and parking lots?
Together with our partners, it is our goal to create charging possibilities for electric vehicles at as many public locations as possible (this includes Migros car parks and parking lots).
We think it is important to offer our customers convenient access to the necessary infrastructure as much as possible. The network of public charging stations is being continuously expanded and is growing quickly. You can find an overview of publicly accessible charging stations here.
Isn't it a contradiction that Migros is sustainable, but at the same time is cranking up the demand for electricity with m-way?
Electric vehicles are a step in the right direction, even if they don't offload the environment 100%. To accomplish that, one would have to get by without any mobility. However, compared to vehicles with combustion engines, electric vehicles are the better choice, as long as they are operated with green electricity. Electric vehicles provide a climate-friendly means of transportation.
How many persons can be driven in an electric car?
In principle, electric cars have the same level of comfort as conventional vehicles with combustion engines. Hence, they provide space for 2 to 5 persons, depending on the model. The standard model of THINK City electric car, as well as the Wild THINK, has space for two persons. In addition, THINK has a model with four seats: 2 front seats plus 2 smaller rear seats for children.
Can I also charge at home?
Yes, charging is possible at any power outlet. The provision and installation of a special charging station at your home is also a service from m-way. (More information on our charging stations can be found here)
Will I receive any subsidies or financial support from the state (national, cantonal, municipal) if I buy an electric vehicle?
The state does not generally pay out any subsidies. However, individual cantons waive or reduce the road tax. Different municipalities offer their citizens other benefits for electromobility. Ask directly at your place of residence.
